ICU Travel Registered Nurse Job

ICU nurses shoulder the responsibility of monitoring and assessing a patient’s progress constantly watching for any subtle or sudden changes in a patient’s condition to decipher if emergency measures are required including but not limited to managing med doses, ventilator support as well as heart monitoring. It is also imperative that ICU nurses provide regular status updates to the patient and their family so that decisions can be made timely and effectively.  It is a position with long hours and situations of life and death that require strength and calm collectiveness which can yield lifesaving results.  Teamwork, multi-tasking and strong interpersonal skills play a huge role in being able to meet the challenges that ICU nurses are faced with on a daily basis.

ICU RN Qualifications:

  • Active RN license in specified state or compact license
  • Nursing degree from an accredited nursing program
  • At least two years of acute care OR nurse experience
  • Strong ICU experience (Medical, Surgical, Telemetry and Trauma)
  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications required (Not all facilities require ACLS. Please speak with representative)

ICU Registered Nurse Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Managing the care of adult patients experiencing life-threatening problems that require complex assessment, high intensity therapies, and interventions
  • Consults with healthcare team members and records all care information concisely, accurately and completely in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms
  • Order and evaluate diagnostic tests
  • Responds to life-saving situations
  • Travel nurse job activities match staff nurse responsibilities and include:
    • Acts as patient advocate by supporting the basic rights, values and beliefs of the patient
    • Communicates to family/significant others appropriate information on patient’s condition
    • Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting
  • Monitoring the patient’s physical and emotional wellbeing
